Sinclair sees red as Colwyn crash out

After losing an early lead at Llanelian Road, the Seagulls suffered deja vu in Yorkshire tonight as they crashed out of the FA Cup qualifiers yet again. And it was going so well too for Jon Newby’s men by half time after Rob Hopley saw off Danny Ellis and curled the ball home past keeper Steve Drench on the half hour mark.

The Bay were dominant, but the Lions transformed themselves after the break – James Walshaw, who scored the equaliser on Saturday, went close to troubling Chris Sanna again with a dangerous volley which veered towards the line – it was poor handling which would cost him as Wayne Brooksby found the leveller on 62 minutes. Within another two minutes, he found himself on the end of a decisive counter attack and neatly finished past Sanna.

Frank Sinclair did nothing to improve matters when he was shown red for confronting Walshaw – which pretty much killed the game off. Gavin Rothery broke clear with the ball in his own half in the dying minutes and came up with Guiseley’s third but an ex-Seagull in Kevin Holsgrove (making his debut as a late substitute) could have made it four if not for a goalline clearance. Avenging aside, the Seagulls’ fifteen-year wait to reach the fourth qualifying round goes on.
